How Do I Compare Two Remodeling Contractors Fairly?

Comparing contractors only by total price is one of the easiest ways to make the wrong decision. A fair comparison looks at scope, materials, schedule, communication, supervision, warranty, and how each contractor handles the unknowns.
Make the scope equal
Ask both contractors to price the same work. If one includes drywall, paint, plumbing connections, debris hauling, and rough materials while another does not, the lower price may not be cheaper. It may simply be incomplete.
Compare communication before signing
How a contractor communicates before the project often shows how they will communicate during the project. Look for clear answers, written details, realistic timelines, and willingness to explain the process.
